The sun on the right and the moon on the left hand

In order to extinguish the light of Islam for good, the Quraish chief decided to murder Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. But before taking the extreme step, they repaired to his protector, Abu Talib and said, "The nephew of thine speaks ill of our gods and our religions; call us fools and say that our forefathers were all in error. Now, punish him for that or let us take our revenge. We can no longer have patience with him." Abu Talib was alarmed by the seriousness of the situation. He called the Prophet s.a.w to him, told him all that the Quraish chiefs had said and observed, "Save thyself and me also and cast not a burden upon me which i may be unable to bear."

With his usual calmness marked by a deep determination, the Prophet replied: "If they bring the sun on my right hand and the moon on my left to shake me from my mission, I shall not desist therefrom until Allah prove my cause or I perish in my efforts."
Touched by the lofty tone of his noble nephew, Abu Talib said, ''Do what thou wilt; by the Lord of Kaaba, I will not give thee up."
